about
Mia writes,
"This song is about deep sorrow and pain from the loss of our beloved ones.
Taiwan had very long martial law period, from 5/20/49 until 6/3/91. This period began after the Chinese Civil War when the two competing governments in China split and Chiang Kai Shek retreated to Taiwan.
My grandparents and parents fled to Taiwan, like a million other immigrants. They experienced separation from their families. Local Taiwanese experienced terrible oppression and suffering. Many people were killed for political reasons.
When I recorded this piece in the studio, I had the image of women waiting for their husbands or their children to come back home. They had many years of waiting. War causes so much needless suffering. "
lyrics
The translation of the spoken lyrics is:
1 day, 2 days, 3 days
waiting for your message
waiting for your letter
waiting for the sound of your voice
one month, two months, three months… waiting
year 1, year 2, year 3… waiting
waiting for your letter
waiting for the sound of your voice
waiting for you
one winter after another
waiting, waiting, waiting…
